6th Grade ELA State test review.

Reminders to parents
1. If homework is not handed in the day it is due it cannot be made up and the students is given dentition.
2. Tests are not to be taken in pencil. If a student wants to use pencil to do homework, and take class notes that is acceptable.
3. When children are given a research paper, if they copy and paste their work from a web site they will receive a 0 for their paper. Plagiarism is not acceptable.
4. If a student wants extra help, I am always willing to help. They must take it upon themselves to come to me and ask.
5. It is the students’ job to copy down their homework and test. Students are never given TEST without ample time to study. If they do not write it down when they are told about it, it is their own fault.
6. If a student is absent the day before a test that does not excuse them from the test.

Weekly vocabulary April 4-8
Affect as a verb means: to make a display of liking or using; to put on a pretense of; also means to cause a change or variation.
1.Mary affects airs of being a Hollywood movie star when she gets dressed up to go out for a party.
2. Mary's cold does not affect her willingness to study. She awoke at 5:30 a.m.and studied until 8 a.m.
Effect as a verb means: to cause to come into being.
as a noun means: an outcome or result. 1. My new diet effected a weight loss of twenty pounds in three months!
2. The effect of losing so much weight made me stronger physically and emotionally.
Accept is a verb that means to receive willingly.
Except is a preposition that means "but" or "with the exception of."
Loose with its two "o's" should remind you that there is too much space so something is "loose" as in a pair of loose (or roomy) pants. Loose also can refer to a handful of coins that are unrestrained as in "loose change." Similarly, a person may be described as "loose" if he or she functions with few rules or boundaries.
